The Preacher and His Purpose
Rom. 1:14-16; Rom. 10:8-21
INTRODUCTION: What is a GOD-CALLED preacher?

HE IS A SEER because of God. "I have made thee a WATCHMAN." Ezk. 3:17
Seer: "One who sees. One who foresees events; a prophet".

HE IS A SAYER FOR GOD. (see Ezk. 3:17-19)

He is God's MOUTH-PIECE. Ambassador. Representative.
He is God's MESSENGER. (JONAH)

HE IS A SERVANT OF GOD.
"A Bondslave"
"Paul a SERVANT of Jesus Christ"
"Philemon our...... fellowlabourer"

THIS MAKES A PREACHER A:

DISTURBER. (Ill. with EARLY CHURCH)
PERSUADER. "Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we PERSUADE men"
DELIVERER. (Ill. with Moses, Egyptian bondage)

WHAT DOES HE SEE:
He sees the PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
He sees SALVATION, DAMNATION AND REPROBATION
WHAT DOES HE SAY:
Now WHAT HE SEES HELPS AND MOVES HIM TO SAY:
He sayeth "THUS SAYETH THE LORD"
He PROCLAIMS "SALVATION THROUGH CHRIST!"
He PREACHES "DAMNATION WITHOUT CHRIST"

HOW DOES HE SERVE:

What he SEES and KNOWS MOVES HIM TO SERVE
He serves UNDER THE COMMAND OF THE SAVIOUR.
THE CONTROL OF THE SPIRIT
THE CORRECTION OF THE SCRIPTURE
THE COMPASSION OF THE SOVEREIGN (Saviour)

CONCLUSION: THE RESULTS OF THE PREACHER AND HIS PREACHING:
God is PLEASED. "... it PLEASED God by the foolishness of PREACHING to save them that believe." (1 Cor. 1:21) Christ is PRESENTED. "... He preached unto Him Jesus" (Acts 8:35)
Sinners are PARDONED! Acts 2:41; 4:4.
